Kanter 56
Designed
by Gregory C. Marshall Naval Architects, the Kanter 56 is an aluminum
family cruising yacht designed to offer world-class performance and
safety.
With a normal cruising speed within the 10 to 12 knot range and
capable of speeds of 18 knots or more, the Kanter 56 is also able to
sustain a 90-degree knockdown and recover quickly. Her impressive speed
and stability are facilitated by an oversized fresh-water tank which
can be topped up by the water maker; when speed is required, fresh
water can be jettisoned to lighten the vessel.
Accommodations on board the Kanter 56 include a master stateroom
amidships for maximum comfort at sea. The stateroom includes a
queen-sized berth, his and hers wardrobe lockers, plenty of dresser
storage for long expeditions and an en suite with an extra-large
shower. Forward guest staterooms port and starboard share an en suite
and are kept brightly lit thanks to large port lights and hatches
overhead.
An interesting feature of the Kanter 56 is that the galley and
dining areas are located a half-level below the main salon in between
the master and guest accommodations. This allows the space to take full
advantage of the 17’ beam to provide a generously proportioned
entertaining area with extra-large windows port and starboard to
provide a superb view. The main salon is traditionally located – though
much larger than in most vessels of this class thanks to the location
of the galley.
The heart of the vessel, the wheelhouse, is located forward of the
salon and provides superb seagoing visibility and operation. A large
pilot seat aft can double as a pilot berth when at anchor or offshore.
Doors port and starboard provide immediate access to the Portuguese
bridge and there is also access to the fly bridge, which features a
secondary helm station, good weather protection and plenty of room for
storage or lounging.
Propulsion for the yacht is a pair of Lugger Model L1276 AZ diesels
producing 525 BHP at 2100 RPM. The engine room provides full stand-up
headroom with convenient access to the swim platform and safe access
while underway off the aft deck.
Capable of operating comfortably and safely for extended voyages,
the Kanter 56 offers the best of both worlds: performance and pleasure;
speed and safety.
